Back in 2017 THE SOUND OF MONEY, a band from the munich pop underground, took the titles of their 12 favourite 60’s albums as the DNA – and gave the letters a good shake! Out came a batch of 12 new titles, for new songs. They wrote those songs, recorded them, and gathered them on the album “MORE? WHY NOT! – an anagrammatical exorcism of the 60s" Now, 7 years later, they have made a follow up, just with their favourite 70s albums, and what to say, it's topping the fun.
A celebration of the album as a format, pop history and exchange.
Here it is "TWO: RHYME ON - an anagrammatical exorcism of the 70s".
The band’s list of favourite albums from that time ranges from David Bowie to Chic, from Nico to Slits, from Bob Marley to Kraftwerk.
And those Anagrams? Here’s an example “The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars” became ‘Dr. Dr. Themefart, Frustrating Himself, Posed as Gay Old Nazi SS’.
And the music, how does this sound? Just like the letters of the titles, the music and lyrics have been shaken up into a dazzling, grotesque kaleidoscope of classic 70s pop styles:
Agricultural P-Funk, Casino Gospel Disco, Anti-Pogo Postpunk, Home Computer Dub Jazz, or the entire Bowie in three and a half minutes backwards ...
The songs, the 70s album, and a bit...
1.. Dr. Dr. Themefart Frustrating Himself Posed As Gay Old Nazi SS
made from the letters of the album title “The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars” by David Bowie
Released 1975, when: David Bowie creates the figure of the “Thin White Duke”. The following year he muses, in a Playboy interview, “I think Britain could benefit from a fascist leader” and calls Adolf Hitler “one of the first rockstars”.
2. Angry Hop Hop
made from the letters of the album title “Phonography” by R. Stevie Moore Released 1976, when: Sid Vicious invents the Pogo dance.
3. All the Morning Drivers, o-e-o!
made from the letters of the album title “The Original Modern Lovers” by The Modern Lovers
Released 1971, when: “Trafic” (Jacques Tati) and “Duel” (Steven Spielberg) are released, two of the foremost movies about living in cars.
4. Sex Duo

6. Aha But No

8. Sicctech
made from the letters of the album title “C’est Chic” by Chic

10. Citrus
